Enjoyable...For the Most Part (3.5 stars)

Morgan Devereaux is a wanted man--a deadly gunslinger who is hell-bent on revenge! Nothing will stop him. Not even the sweet and innocent, Amber McCandless. The niece of the man whom he is determined to destroy... While the storyline is interesting enough, my attention was glued on the very intense and rocky relationship between the protagonists. I was constantly teary-eyed and had this painful lump in my throat. Unfortunately, what kept me from really enjoying it was the hero's abusive nature--and the lack of a genuine love story. Morgan is an intriguining character in the beginning, (dark and mysterious), but his cold disposition is slow to improve. Although the violence is a part of him, his cruelty toward Amber is goes way beyond redeemable! Worst, his behavior becomes very disturbing at one point. New Concepts Publishing warns readers of the violent content of the book, I would also have appreciated a warning of the violence directed at the heroine--especially by the hero himself! I ended up disliking him so much that it distracted me from totally enjoying this book, (in addition to the fact that his relationship with Amber wasn't the least bit romantic). He displays rare moments of tenderness, but the vicious cycle of his physical and emotional abuse is what kills it for me (reason for my overall rating). Their relationship doesn't resemble any kind of romance. Mostly, it's destructive and heartbreaking. I agree with the previous reviewer that the sex is steamy and explicit. Yet it didn't convey a real sense of emotional connection between the two--just utter physical fulfillment. Despite my negative feelings, I still think this is an absorbing read. The protagonists easily captivated me (even one I despised), and their relationship definitely makes for a compelling and emotion-filled read. Although I recommend reading this book, I wouldn't at the price of this paperback edition (or hardcover)! Instead, I'd suggest readers to buy it in e-book format from New Concepts Publishing. You'll save a bundle!

An Excellent Story!

AMBER MOMENT is a well-plotted and seamless story, never failing to hold my interest. Each scene led into the next in a logical progression, nothing was out of place. Nothing, not even a single word, was superfluous. And though at first the plot seemed predicable, there were turns that took me completely by surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Be warned, though, it has steamy sex scenes, which, mercifully, didn't dominate the story. The characters were realistic and intelligent. It makes me want to read more by this author.
