Book Overview

Great way to meet the giants of Christian Faith

Shelley has selected brief writings from 52 spiritual leaders and theologians of Christianity's past. He starts with Paul, writer of New Testament letters, but then moves in chapter two to leaders only preachers and theologians know about -- but lay people ought to meet!Who's here? Polycarp (about AD 150), Origen, Augustine, Francis of Assisi, Luther, Calvin, John Wesley, to the more modern, Oswald Chambers, Bonhoeffer, Watchman Nee, C. S. Lewis and others. Don't worry if you don't know these folks. Each chapter has a brief introductory essay, then you get a sampling of that person's writings. By selecting 52 writers, this would be a great devotional book for a year. It is, after all, the type of book that is best savored slowly, digesting one chapter at a time -- not for consuming quickly in a day or two.
