Aggression is distinct from, synonymously used words like anger and hostility. Anger involves strong feelings of displeasure in response to a perceived injury and the exact nature of these feelings like outrage, hate or irritation depends on the specific situation. Hostility may or may not be connected to aggression but it does involve a negative attitude toward others. People can be angry at others and regard them with great hostility without ever trying to harm others. Aggression can occur without anger or hostility, as when a contract killer murders a perfect stranger in order to earn money. Extreme acts of aggression are referred to as violence.
