Is it possible to prevent and even reverse the decline of mental faculties? The answer is a resounding yes. Tony Buzan, known around the world as the creator of mental maps and one of the greatest... This description may be from another edition of this product.
OK - first up: I have many of Buzan's books and I consider myself slightly biased to favourable reviews of his publications. However, that's not to say that, like a certain other lateral thinking person who will remain unnamed, his works can't sometimes feel slightly derivative of his earlier work. Still, this new book - and I found it just recently by accident and am happy to provide first review - is a great collection of material that bounds many of Buzan's earlier works (memory, mind-mapping, vocabulary, etc) but provides a much more holistic view of keeping the mind (and the general person) in a much more healthy state. When reading the book I was reminded of Vos Savant's "Brain Building in 12 weeks" as the book consists of many mental exercises that aim to provide a framework for exercising the mind. Vos Savant's book is more clinical than this however and so I found Buzan's work much more enjoyable as a read or as a 'dip in and try' exercise list. Even if you have other Buzan titles and perhaps feel that there hasn't been anything new in the last couple, I am always thankful for the reminders to hold the course and look after my brain and exercise various capacities that all of us hold and would recommend this title as a well rounded sampling of Buzan's other works and also some solid principles for keeping the mind active. And, even better, it's wonderfully free of over-the-top statements to suggest that it will make you a genius in the image of Einstein. Just solid, sensible and practical exercise for the mind.
