An excellent book on photo retoucing and restoration!

I have the First Edition of Katrin Eismann's book plus her videotape on Photo Retouching. I was so excited to see a Second Edition and I was not disappointed. Like her First Edition - the text is easy to read and understand - and all images and examples are in color. On her website you can download most of the images that are used in the book and apply the steps to your own image as you progress through the book. I think this "hands-on" approach makes it very easy to understand and retain the information. If you have a passion for photo retouching and restoration - THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!

The "Must Have" Photoshop Retouching/Restoration Book

Katrin Eismann's new Photoshop book is the updated version of her very successful restoration/retouching Bible. She is a brilliant teacher who uses her vast knowledge and precise communication skills to demonstrate sophisticated techniques at workshops throughout the world. In this book Katrin provides a carefully crafted manual for repairing and enhancing photographs using Photoshop 7, Adobe's latest update of its challenging image software program. This second edition offers step-by-step demonstrations describing how to approach the most common problems one encounters when working with faded, damaged photographs. Among the many subjects covered are: color, contrast, tone, exposure correction, mold damage, stains, cracks, red eye, torn edges, working by the numbers, replacing missing information and removing dust and scratches. Katrin's approach to portrait retouching emphasizes the subtle touch. In her extensive chapter on developing a portrait retouch strategy, she thoughtfully discusses and demonstrates the steps for removing blemishes, reducing wrinkles, and improving eyes, lips and hair. A comprehensive website supplements the book. Readers can download most of the photographs, making it easy to practice using techniques on the same images found throughout the book. This great book by the "Photoshop Diva" will teach you more about Photoshop than you can possibly imagine.

Photoshop Restoration and Retouching

This remarkable book is without question, the best of them all. I have purchased quite a few Photoshop Books and I would not trade this book for the rest combined. Had I known what it contained, I would have gladly paid three times the price. If you primarily work with photos this is the book for you.It is a breeze to understand and practice the tutorials which may be downloaded. In the process of doing so, I also learned how to use PS 6 in ways I had always ignored before because I could not quite understand how to use some of the features.Katrin Eismann is able to teach in a way that is easily understood. She holds nothing back. How to restore, retouch and process photos becomes easy. It provides a solid foundation for the intermediate and advanced user of PS6.

Older Photoshop Versions and The Book

Before I bought this book, I was reluctant to buy because I am running Photoshop 5.0.2, and I was questioning whether my skill level was high enough to benefit from the book. I found that almost everything in the book could be done with v.5.0. I considered myself to be somewhere between beginner and intermediate in skill levels. This book is written in a language that is easy to understand. It is absolutely loaded with information, and by the time I read up to chapter 3, I had my money's worth. Previously, I spent hours upon hours working on old family photos, with mixed success. After a short while studying the book, I was able to quickly improve the problem areas. The only possible drawback is that if you want to follow along with the tutorials, you need to download images from the author's website (which I recommend). But when you consider what this book has to offer, this is a minor inconvenience. I took the time to download all images, and save them to a CD. I've had this book for about 3 weeks, and I simply can't say enough about it!

The Best!!!

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book since hearing of it at the annual Thunder Lizard Photoshop Conference in San Francisco in early January. Early previews had set some high levels of expectation regarding the content and application. My book arrived and I sat up all night reading it and trying the various tutorial exercises. My expectations were more than met. They were exceeded! I am a professional photographer and educator. I have been teaching and employing Photoshop since version 2.5. In the years that have passed, I have probably purchased every major instructional book on Photoshop that has appeared. Many have had outstanding sections, but this book surpasses all of them. Its graphic design, its instructional methodology and its practical, straigtforward application of Photoshop to the commercial portrait photograper's craft is unique. Every chapter brings a new insight to bear on the daily work of the photo-retoucher. This is a MUST for any serious Photoshop user. It will be a required text for all of my future college Photoshop classes.
