Book Overview

Love addiction manifests in many forms, from Fatal Attraction-type obsessive lust to less extreme but nonetheless psychologically and emotionally harmful forms. The most common of these is staying in a bad relationship because of a fear of being alone-the "I hate you but don't leave me" relationship. In ADDICTION TO LOVE, recovering love addict Susan Peabody explains the variety of ways this disorder plays out, from the obsessively doting love...

Eye-opening

This book really helped me realize what I was doing wrong. It opened my eyes to the truth about my love addiction. It gives helpful suggestions that I tried and found success. This is a great book to start with if you find yourself loving someone too much or being too dependent on someone else (in a romantic sense). People need space and this book helps you not only acknowledge that, but it helps you give space to your partner and take some for yourself.

Excellent Resource

This book was a hit when I was in treatment, and now I use it for my clients.

Brilliant Book about Love Addiction

This is the only book I have found that describes all the different kinds of love addicts. I am a torch bearer, but my last boyfriend was a seductive withholder. God knows what I would have done if I had not read this book and found out what was wrong with me. Books have been written about love addiction since the 80s but this problem only seems to be getting worse among the 20-something crowd. For even more about love addiction go to Susan's website [...]. It will blow your mind to find out how this problem is destroying lives.

Great book on love addiction

This is a great book. I have always wondered if I might be a love addict and Susan's checklist of symptoms helped me see myself more clearly. I especially like the fact that she offers so much information about recovery. Every chapter has a section entitled "Suggestions for Change." And the whole second half of the book is about solving the problem of love addiction. There are chapters about facing your problem, making changes, getting therapy, going to support groups, healing the wounds of childhood trauma, building self-esteem, etc. She also offers advice about how to create a healthy, loving relationship once in recovery. Her bibliography is very helpful, as are all of her worksheets. Most of all, this book is easy to read. It is not weighed down with academic research; it just provides a wealth of information in straight-forward language -- a language that everyone can understand. I recommend this book to everyone who thinks they might have a problem with loveaddiction.

Unlike other love addiction/codependency books

This book offers so many tools to help you recognize your patterns & how to work through them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Have read it 3 times and find some new tool each time, possibly growing as I go. Excellent
