Enjoyable captive / captor romance that doesn't stray into an abusive relationship

From the back cover: From the stormy shores of Salem to the steamy passion of the Louisiana bayous... Suddenly stripped of her family fortune, Eliza Parrish is heartlessly rejected by the Montgomerys, her fiance's family, who then turn her into an indentured servant. Now she must accompany their spoiled daughter Philomena to England...a perilous voyage that will change all their lives forever. They are ment on the high seas by Jean-Luc Gautir, a daring French buccaneer obsessed with revenge against the Montgomerys for the falce accusations that sent him to jail. His plot is to kidnap their daughter and hold her for ransom. Little does he suspect that the pale young beauty he has captured is not Philomena, but her servant Eliza. Ahead lies a vast sea of unknown passage, a drak and dangerous journey through the bayous, and a sprawling Southern plantation where dark secrets and stormy passions are destined to surrender to the ecstasy of an overpowering love. And my review: I bought this book from a thrift store, thinking it would be your typical 'captive of a pirate falls in love with him' storyline. But this book was much more than meets the eye. None of the characters were stereotypes - all were well-rounded, fully fleshed-out characters who grew and matured over the course of the book. Also, both the hero and the heroine were likeable and honorable people. He appeared to be a pirate - but he was so much more than that. And what I really liked is that the hero never forced himself on the heroine (again, showing what a honorable man he is). I really hate that theme, and unfortunately, you find it so often in historical romance. I know I'm not the only reader who finds the idea of rape (wrapped in the lie of rough lovemaking) as repulsive. This was an author who did not use this horrible plot device, which I really enjoyed. The author relied on more than just lust to hold the characters together. There was a true connection beneath their physical attraction, a bond that was felt by the reader. The action was also well written. My only complaint was that I felt it came to a climax too many times by the end. It was almost as if this book has several endings, even though there was only one plot. Not that I had to force myself to finish it. I devoured this in two days, and while it wasn't a keeper book, it was still very entertaining. I would definitely give other works by this author a try, and I would recommend this book.

THIS BOOK TRULY DELIVERS ROMANCE.

I HAVE MADE READING ROMANCE NOVELS MY FAVORITE PAST TIME. I CAN TRULY SAY THAT THIS BOOK DELIVERS ROMANCE IN THE TRUEST FORM. I WILL BE LOOKING FOR OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR!
