"A" SQUADRON DIARY 7th ROYAL TANK REGIMENT

In 1939, the 4th/7th Royal Tank Regiment deployed to France with Vickers Mk. VI light tanks, entering the war at its outset. After the regiment's capture at Tobruk in 1942, it was disbanded, only to be reconstituted in 1943 through the redesignation of the 10th Royal Tank Regiment, a wartime-raised unit.

Reborn the regiment landed in Normandy on 18 June 1944 as part of the 31st Tank Brigade. It was thrown into fierce combat, playing a key role in Operation Epsom and the brutal bridgehead battles that followed. Fighting relentlessly, it helped secure the capture of Le Havre and, even when detached from its brigade, contributed decisively to the early containment of Dunkirk.

From the beaches of Normandy, the regiment pushed forward across France toward the Rhine, leaving a record defined by determination and heavy losses. The accompanying nominal casualty roll stands as a solemn testament to the cost of its advance. Originally published in Germany shortly after cessation of hostilities in 1945, and is categorised as rare in it's original 1945 printing.
