Fantastic Debut Novel

I read this book in one day. Once I picked it up and started reading, I just couldn't put it down. Summer and Nick's story will have you feeling a range of many different emotions. One minute I was as happy as Summer, the next I was screaming at her to leave and the next I was ready to strangle Nick. Summer falls head over heels in love with Nick, but Nick had a few rules when it comes to love. Don't cross him and don't get pregnant. Before Summer could even think about doing either, Nick announces that he no longer wants to be in a relationship with her and leaves town. Heartbroken and alone, Summer finds herself breaking rules in the name of love and fear. Nick is dealing with a past full of hurt, disappointments and betrayal and it shows. He returns to find Summer, the woman that he believed to be different than the rest had hurt, disappointed, and betrayed him just like the others. Before he gives her time to explain her actions he lashes out and tries to make her feel the same pain that he's feeling. His actions are downright mean and they make Summer fear him even more. Nick takes Summer through many trials and tribulations, but as she goes through them, he goes through some of his own; the battle of love and hate. Fate throws the two together and Nick and Summer have to deal with their feelings and make some serious decisions about their relationship. Victoria Wells does a great job of telling a story that not only sucks you in, but keeps you until the last page and leaves you wanting more (in a good way). You feel as if you are in the book with the characters feeling the same emotions that they are feeling. I felt Summer's love and fear of Nick. I also felt Nick's pain. The storyline deals with real relationship issues that many people face every day. I'm looking forward to more novels from this talented author. Job well done!

Be ready for an emotional ride....

This is a story about an emotional growth experience of two people that had to learn to really trust and to trust again. One fought it every step of the way and the other one had to relearn it. This author takes us the roller-coastered, battleground journey with Summer and Nick and by the book's end you have been on an extremely emotional ride. I LOVED THIS STORY....by the end that is. But during it I found myself disgusted, angry, frustrated and tense as these character developed and blossomed. That said, this book ended up taking me on a roller coaster emotionally and at points I did not have appreciate the characteristics of the these two people but it is real and does exist and thus I appreciated it immensely. Well done Mrs. Victoria Wells, well done. Nick is the type of man that does not believe in commitment and fights to stay that way. Summer falls in love with him early on and as the story unfolds, she has extreme choices to make based on that love and what she knows of the man. You have to appreciate where her fears came from as well as his anger....YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIKE IT, BUT IT WAS REAL and for that this author gets kudos from me as she told it you were there in the middle of it, experiencing it. Both of these character grew in this book as they started being honest with their feelings and and fears. Because of that, this is a good book that gets you engaged while evoking a sundry of emotions in you that sometimes allows you to inflict your own emotions/fellings into the story. However, if you allow the story to unfold as told, by journey's end you will not throw it across the room again....as I did several times when I incorporated/projected my own feelings into the story. I read it last week and since that time have told others of this story and they have brought this book as well. Can't wait for her next one!!

A Special Summer Indeed

Victoria Wells' debut novel A Special Summer was a great read. Over the course of a year, Summer Jackson meets and falls in love Nick Stiles. Nick is the typical alpha male and gives Summer everything except his love. When Nick unexpectedly tells Summer that they should breakup as he is leaving the country for business, she is devasted. Nick returns thinking he and Summer can pick up where they left off, but he gets a big surprise. The story held me captive from beginning to end. Ms. Wells' handling of some very sensitive subject matter in this story was excellent. At first I thought that Victoria was a little weak, but as the story progressed, I realized that she was not weak, but in love. Love tends to make us do and at times accept things that ordinarily we would not. Summer's friends Starr and Ava were great secondary characters who supported her and her decisions and loved her from the very beginning. Every woman should have BFFs such as them and I can't wait until their stories are released.

Love Always Has A Way Of Winning

A Special Summer is the debut novel by Victoria Wells. At first glance, one would think that Summer Jackson and Nicholas Stiles had the perfect relationship. Summer was a young, single and very attractive nurse who was determined to save herself for one man. Nicholas was a handsome self-made millionaire. After meeting at a charity dinner, Nick knew that he had to get to know this beauty. Summer was not like all of the other women that Nick was used to dating. The kind that was only interested in what they could receive. Summer was humble and she did not mind telling him what she thought. Summer's world came to an abrupt end when Nick ended their relationship without an explanation. Eight months later, Nick returns with hope to renew their relationship but he learns that Summer has withheld something from him that he feared. Wells has crafted a different romance novel. She created two characters that are forced to face their character flaws in order to rekindle a love that never ended. The story was very realistic and filled with emotions. It was very easy to see the dilemma that each character was faced with and the decisions that they had to make. At times, it moved slowly but only to bring readers to a very fulfilling ending. This book is recommended for everyone that believes in Happily Ever After. Reviewed by: Priscilla C. Johnson APOOO BookClub
