Bell wants nothing more than to ignore the demons of her past, soak up the sun on a beach resort moon, and get her mojo back. But it turns out paradise has a price: solving another f*#@ing murder.
Amid the sinking metropolis of Scarlet City, renowned for its peaceful populace, pristine natural beauty, and distressingly omnivorous wildlife, death has struck. In the headquarters of a technology giant, a woman's body has appeared, seemingly materializing in a locked room full of VIPs and bearing the hallmarks of an attack by the moon's mysterious indigenous species, who have never before attacked so brazenly.
The optics are terrible, the C-suite types want answers, and Bell is press-ganged into finding them. But everything is not as it seems, be it murder, merger, or the colony which spawned them. Between a busybody detective so bored with his overly peaceful job he's willing to sacrifice his free time, a femme fatale executive witness/suspect whom Bell would much rather "interrogate" than interrogate, and repeated attempts on her own life, Bell can't figure out how to shirk this responsibility.
One thing is certain: out of the two she's had to solve, this will be her toughest case yet.
