A great read for me

I really enjoyed reading this book. I found the problems Mae faces to be indicitive of our real life struggles. She is a relatively young woman, only 52, but has already lost so many important people in her life. The loss of her grandchild is the one that finally breaks her and she essentially stops living. Just as in real life, the bad can often outweigh the good. Tatlock is excellent at creating drama that mimics reality. I think this is why she is such an intriguing author. She doesn't gloss it over or simplify the problems we all face. I find her references to God subtle; they do not overpower the plot of the book, rather they enhance the book by illustrating the real struggles Christians have in living life according to God's word. I recommend this book and any of Ann Tatlock's books to all, even if you do not generally read Christian literature (this includes myself). While Tatlock can sometimes be overly descriptive, she still writes an excellent novel. I love the emotional and familial issues she discusses. Her books make you think about your own relationships and dynamics involved in them. Many of her books are set in the recent past, especially the mid-20th century. Each one is unique, with its own set of issues.

I FEEL THAT THIS SUBJECT MAYBE A LARGE OVERLOOKED ONE FOR SOME OF US. IT MAY ALSO BE ONE THAT WE ARE NOT AWARE OF OR HAVE NOT ACKNOWLEDGED. FORGIVING YOURSELF IS SUCH A GIFT, BUT HOW DOES ONE DO IT? THIS BOOK HELPED ME ALOT! I AM STILL STRUGGLING BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP MS. TATLOCK!
