Jesus said to His disciples, "Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." ( Matthew 6:34, ESV) A paraphrase might be: "Live one day at a time!" The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:28 that "all things work together for good for those who love God, and are called according to His purpose." The same psalmist who referred to life as "labor" and "sorrow" in Psalm 90:10 went on to offer a brief prayer."So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." He didn't pray, "So teach us to number our years or even our weeks and months." He prayed, "So teach us to number our days ." All of us are "pilgrims" in the sense that God has put us here with a beginning and an end, a start and a finish. What we do in the interim between that start and that finish is our "pilgrimage," our journey; and we live it out in steps, one by one, day by day.
