A Physician's Footprint is a story told through the eyes of a doctor living in seventeenth century Spain during the Franco Spanish Thirty Years war. During that massacre, it is a story of his footprints and those he touches and creates. He is the witness to a life he creates and her footprints to take a life and trade it for another's. He, repelled by the footprints of a cardinal's Inquisition and avarice that could destroy those he loves, together with the footprints of a padre auction a prostitute to save the padre's church. During this time, he directs another's beloved footprints, the brothel's bastard, to a university where she masquerades as a boy. She meets another bastard, the illegitimate daughter of the king. Together they help the condesa and her brothers fight to save their winery from marauding French soldiers before the signing of the Treaty of Pyrenees. The doctor's footprints, joined together by another's, create footprints of two others. His last act is to share his footprints with his adversary, whose face is a complete surprise.
