But it was originally designed to help families and groups in the local church count up the fifty days to Pentecost beginning with Easter Sunday. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit came in a powerful way after the resurrection of Jesus, and the world was thereafter substantially different. But here is the point. Above all the Holy Spirit came to make people holy. If we forget that vital lesson, we reduce the Spirit's work to the periphery of the Christian life and not see it at the center, where it belongs. Many local churches do little to celebrate the birthday of the Church. But should we not commemorate this day by remembering how the Holy Spirit filled the believers and thus made them holy, how 3,000 were baptized and how the Church began to march across the Roman Empire and beyond spreading the faith? Additionally, might the Lord also want us to get ready for deeper life in Him today and a harvest of souls in our own local communities? This little devotional and discussion guide attempts to aid in that preparation for Pentecostal reality. It is designed for married couples, families, friends, small groups or churches to read a daily passage concerning holiness, delve into its meaning and then challenge each other with a discussion question or two. Prayer prompts are provided to help participants cultivate open hearts to live out our call to holiness. Suggested weekly memory verses are intended to focus the mind on various aspects concerning the holy life. Some churches will choose to reinforce these lessons through sermons and small group Bible studies. Enjoy your journey deeper into the life our Holy One desires for us.
