Air Force Sergeant Carter Cash is lonely. A recent Southeast Asia returnee, he's in a sea of young women but none show an interest in him beyond friendship. He occupies his off-duty time flying his airplane and taking flight instruction for a commercial pilot license. One of his friends in the Charleston Air Force Base WAF squadron asks him to show her family through one of the C-5s on which Cash flies. On the day of the showing, his friend brings another girl with them. It turns out he has seen the young woman on the base and was attracted to her, but they'd never met. Although Carter is nothing but professional during their time on the airplane, later that evening he and the girl, Corrine Erickson, make a connection while dining with their friend and her family. Their relationship quickly becomes intimate and they make plans to be married. During a visit to Charles Towne Landing, a historical theme park in Charleston, a female cougar takes a friendly interest in Corrine. A few months later, they fly to Corrine's North Dakota home to meet her parents. While camping at a remote creek on the Erickson Ranch, they have an encounter with a family of cougars that is beyond strange. On their way back to Charleston after they leave, they stop off in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. During a visit to Gatlinburg, they receive a shocking surprise.
