Ummm, I Am Not Talking To You

Kimberly Matthews takes a detour from the chick-lit genre and ventures into the Christian fiction genre in her newest novel, A Little Hurt Ain't Never Hurt Nobody. Jream Colton's husband Cade is dead and she is mad at God about it. She prayed for his healing and God did not answer her prayers, so now she is not speaking or listening to Him. Jream deals with Cade's death by putting all her time and energy into her lingerie business, while neglecting her children. She believes things are going well, until she finds out her daughter is acting out at school. When a fine UPS driver, Jaxon, makes a delivery, Jream takes a second look at herself and gets a makeover. She makes a lot of outward changes, but emotionally very little has changed. With Jaxon's encouragement, she starts attending church and the ice around her heart starts to thaw. This novel was a short read, but packed with a lot of lessons on forgiveness. Jream's character, a woman who was lost, miserable, and floundering after the death of her husband was very realistically portrayed. It also shows how different children grieve and sometimes their grief is missed because they seem normal. Most of all, this novel proved that no matter how hard you try, you cannot ignore God. When Jream decided to listen to God, her blessings became plentiful. Short, sweet and to the point, this is a novel I recommend to readers of women fiction, Christian fiction and chick-lit.
