And she is back!!!!

After the "Duchess" series, I was ready to give up hope on another really great book by Eloisa James, but I simply could not put down "Kiss at Midnight". Kate and Gabe offer up a fantastic fairytale romance replete with castle, crazy family, a wicked stepmother, and a menagerie of animals. The dialog is crisp and entertaining, and the characters are endearing. I was truly disappointed when it ended. I hope that there is another great book coming soon!

Eloisa does it again!!!

I love reading Eloisa James. She creates characters that are truly human with believable flaws. She also throws in little gems of sentences [cloven hoof, indeed!] that make you laugh out loud. Reading an Eloisa James novel is giving yourself a few hours of absolute joy! I always look forward to a good read when I pick up one of her books. Thanks, Eloisa, for such fun!

Eloisa James at her best

A Kiss at Midnight is closely based on the Cinderella story. Yeah, yeah, you say, been there, done that? Well, plot-wise, sure, there are no surprises. But this book is funny, interesting, and beautifully written. The main characters are exceptionally likeable, and their conversations sparkle. There are loads of secondary characters that you'd like to know better, and you have to love an author who enjoys animals as much as James does, even if those animals are Malteses (read the book to see). I have a tiny quibble about historical accuracy - in an epilogue James places the story in 1813, but the costumes she describes (including wigs) belong at least 20 years earlier, and the interest in archaeology is probably a couple of decades later. These inconsistencies don't in any way detract from the pleasures of reading this book, however. I think it's the best book by Eloisa James I've read - and given how good she is, that's saying a lot!

Sweet Romance!

I was very surprised at how much I loved this book! It was a sweet, romantic and sexy story! Nice, 'light', happy, and hot! If you are in the mood for a deep dark story skip this one. If you want a book that will make you smile and leave you in a good mood pick this one! Eloisa James writes in the 'Historical Notes' section in the back that she allowed herself a more freedom with the language than in her other historical novels. I found that it made the book easier to read. If you are a stickler for historical accuracy you might want to read the Note first. Definitely 5 stars!

An absolutely delightful story

I bought this book as soon as it hit the shelves and stayed up late to finish it. It was absolutely delightful, and goes straight to my keeper shelves. I particularly loved the way that Ms. James resolved the relationship between the two sisters. The book is fun and also has a lot of heart.
