Jack, a lowly scrap collector, unearths an old robot named Circe. However, she is quite certain she is in fact a human and simply needs to recover her body to prove it so. Ever willing to help, Jack agrees to accompany her on a long journey through the wastelands. On the way they meet crazed old men, precocious young girls, deadly assassins, and the ever looming threat of the companies that rule in the big cities hunting Circe and her advanced robot body. In what seems to be a doomed and dying world, Jack and Circe find that there still remains a semblance of hope, and that the definition of what gives a human their humanity can be at times a gray area.
