(Used) A History of Finland

A very good book -- gives you a perspective and details on the Finnish history from the perspective of the Finnish settlers, versus the Swedish or Russian powers' view. Answered many questions for me about who my ancestors were and why they made decisions to relocate during wars, etc.

A Standard Text on the Subject

First published back in 1962, this review uses the dustjacket blurb from the new and revised edition. "In AD 100 the Roman historian Tacitus described a wild and primitive people called Fenni -- the first mention of the Finnish people on record. Since that time, Finland has had one of the most bloody and strife-torn histories in Europe. Preyed on by aggressive neighbors, devastated by battles fought on its soil...it has tenaciously maintained its vital national culture." "This volume, in tracing the long and intricate pattern, of Finland's history, particularly its complicated relationships with Sweden and Russia, the growth of Finnish nationalism and the development of a distinctively Finnish culture offers a comprehensive perspective on one of the little-known countries of Europe."

Great country

Finland is cool. I like Finland. This book tell me a lot of the finland place. I like finland. The author say finland have lots of bombs. I disagree. Finland got a lot of (...) lard, but not a lot of bombs.Overall, Helsinki is big. Detroit's city is more bigger. I like Norway. Good book! Buy it!
