Book Overview

Millions of modern American men want to eat better but don't have the time to count calories. They are turned off by the prospect of forever giving up burgers and fries and confused by the media's conflicting health-related messages. A Guy's Gotta Eat proves that healthy eating is a surprisingly easy option. Self-taught nutritionist and weekend warrior triathlete Russ Klettke, along with sports nutritionist Deanna Conte, provide all the tips and tools men need to start eating better, from nutrition facts to advice about cooking for a hot date. Included are shopping lists of the 60 grocery items every man should have in his kitchen--and "combinations" (rather than traditional recipes) which make whipping up good, healthy food easier than ever. The authors make smart eating automatic and simple, whether one is cooking at home or dining out. Loosely based on the immensely popular Zone diet and focusing on fruits, vegetables, proteins, and "good" carbs, A Guy's Gotta Eat is a whole-life guide for men who say, "I should eat better but don't know how."

Just what I was looking for!!!

This book is awesome! It's well written with tons of good advice. Who knew that eating right could taste so good?! I would suggest it to anyone who wants to get their eating habits back on track.

Food for thought... delicious!

I work all the time, work out as much as I can, travel too much for my job, and end up starving a lot and eating what I can grab. I always thought that improving my diet was going to have to wait til I got married or got a more sedate job or becoming indepedently wealthy and had a private chef. This book makes it all seem very easy and doable now. I've already started to eat better by following the tips and advice in the book. And, for the first time in about two years, after I rinsed off the dust, I got out my fry pan and made a terrific dinner for myself from the book.I've been recommending this book to my buddies and I'm really glad that I found it.

Every Guy's Gotta Get This Book!

As a gal who knows too many 40-something, paunchy single guys who rely on restaurant fare, fast-food, take-out and delivery, A Guy's Gotta Eat offers a fresh and even fun way for guys to eat healthy at home. The author not only backs-up his advice with easy-to-understand nutrition information, but also advises guys on what kitchen equipment to have on-hand, and shares simple cooking tips and even his own monthly grocery list. This book offers a practical and common sense approach to eating healthy, and is also a fun read. I've bought A Guy's Gotta Eat for all the guy friends that I care about, and I encourage the author to consider a sequel: A Gal's Gotta Eat too, you know!

Fast food that's also good for you

I borrowed this book from a friend and liked it so much I just bought one myself. The book is a little bit of everything -- very practical advice about how to eat healthy without spendin a lot of time and money to do it. There's also great advice on how to best set up your kitchen and even order groceries. The author's idea is to basically shop for groceries once a month. Works for me!Lots of great recipes in here that are very tasty and easy to make. I also appreciated the effort the author made to back up so many of his statments with research. Very practical thinking in here -- yet fully backed by solid science."Diets" don't usually work long-term because they're inherently restrictive, but from reading this book, you get the sense that Mr. Klettke loves to eat and more specifically, loves to eat good food. Lots of detail in here about how to incorporate strong spices and seasonings into your food and I learned a lot about how the pleasure of eating is often found in enjoying different tastes and textures at once. For someone who is getting a little older, likes to stay active, wants to eat better, but doesn't want to jump on that Atkins bandwagon, you should definitely consider this book.

This book is a must-read

I just stumbled upon this book and have found it to be incredibly full of useful and tactical information on how to eat smart. As a frequent reader of such books, this book stands out in that it provides an easy-to-read tone by the author who seems to be a "regular guy" in that he has walked the path he describes. This interesting read provides step-by-step information on what guys should stock in their kitchens, how to cook an easy healthy meal in your kitchen (and can be done faster than dialing for delivery food!). Believe me, I am the king of eating out as I am a single guy on-the-run most of the time...I have tried some of the recipes and it's much cheaper and faster to cook a meal at home.Bottom line, this book was inspiring and I strongly recommend it! I plan to carry this book around with me in my backpack and/or briefcase as it is simply a good resource.READ IT!!!
