Each journey leaves something behind. A paper. A ring. A question: why does a compass point north?
When the answer finally comes, it leads Sparcer not up to the stars but down - to the roots of a vanished tree at the edge of his own town, and to a buried secret his parents have spent eighteen years praying he would never find. Sparcer isn't who he thinks he is. And somewhere out in the crowded dark, something has just heard him wake up.
