Important Literature

Feminism did exist before the 1960s. This novel of 'manners' predates Austen and is a book where female characters are stronger, more independent than any other literature of the time. As an early novel, it can be taxing to read for a modern audience, but it its importance and relative obscurity makes it all the more important for people to discover.
