Fast Paced Action With Good Romance

Genre: Harlequin Superromance My Rating 4.75 of 5 I didn't think the blurb for this book really let the reader know this would be such a really fast paced, action filled romance. Kira Jennings is one of three half -siblings in the "mighty" Jennings family. She and her older brother, Bryce, are in competition for promotion. Their younger half-sister, Leila, is happy to be working in the computer department and she is Kira's friend and ally. Kira has been blamed for failing to do proper due diligence on a recent project so she is trying to make up lost ground. She decides, without the knowledge of her family, to try to negotiate an access easement to allow development of family land in a small Nevada town. But Kira does not know the family history between Bryce, her father and the man from whom she is seeking access, Jason Ross. Jason Ross has struggled to rebuild his life and his ranch after having been nearly ruined by the Jennings family. He wants to be left alone to live his life in quiet peace with as few neighbors as possible. He definitely wants to have nothing to do with any member of the Jennings family, including the attractive and persistent, Kira. Although Jason keeps trying to say "No" and "No Way" to Kira, forces of nature, and her own stubbornness, keep throwing them together. Kira's continued pushing and investigation threatens to bring up items in the past that neither Jason nor the Jennings family may want to face. Outside influences interfere with Kira and Jason trusting each other initially. Then Kira and Jason face an open range fire together, and they learn that they are both being threatened by unknown people. They slowly learn to trust each other and decide to work together. The big questions are whether solving the current threats will stir up the hornet nest of the past and whether their relationship will have anywhere to go in the future. The character driven issues combined wonderfully with the twisting plot to make this a surprisingly fast and satisfying read. I really liked the continual tension and suspense.

interesting contemporary romance

If her family knew what she was doing, they would have heart attacks after they abducted her. However, Kira Jennings is in Otto, Nevada hoping to persuade Jason Ross to allow her family access across his ranch to land they want to develop. She knows Jason hates her family but she cannot understand why he fails to take responsibility for the crime he committed that landed him in jail. Jason believes God is testing him like a modern day Job as he is attracted to the enemy, a Jennings. He knows better than to have anything to do with Kira or her kin as her half-brother is the reason he ended up doing time for a crime he did not commit. As they fall in love, she wonders if his attraction to her will prove stronger than his loathing of her sibling. This is an interesting contemporary romance due to her family as a detractor to the relationship between the lead couple. Kira and Jason are enemy combatants as neither wants to fall in love with the other because the complications seem to astronomically insurmountable. Fans will appreciate this fine Nevada tale as Kira needs to know the truth whether her brother or her beloved committed the crime. Harriet Klausner

A Cowboy's Redemption

With A Cowboy's Redemption, Jeannie Watt has produced another top-flight tale of cowboys and romance in the modern West, complete this time with thunder, lightening, and raging prairie fires. Are these symbolic? Maybe. Jeannie has a talent for slipping little signs and signals of impending romantic turmoil into her novels. This is the story of Kira Jennings and Jason Ross. Kira is a member of the powerful Jennings clan that owns and controls ranch lands in Idaho and Northern Nevada. Except the homestead of Jason Ross, which sits next to some potentially valuable Jennings property. Unfortunately for the Jennings, Jason controls the right-of- way and isn't about to give it up. Until Kira Jennings shows up with only one purpose in mind, to negotiate the coveted right-of-way. Kira knows about Jason's prison term, but she is unaware of her family's role in his "crime" and the sentence Jason received. But his past and her membership in the family Jason despises soon become irrelevant. Shortly after her arrival, Kira finds herself battling alongside Jason to save his animals and assorted ranch structures from an insatiable prairie fire. The two form a bond and interesting matters proceed from there. Jeannie Watt is a master artist at drawing word pictures to fill a story the way "background" players fill a movie screen. Her description of the odor of burned sage made my nose wrinkle, and when she wrote about Otto, Nevada, a small-town surrounded by ranches, farms, and vast panoramas of empty grazing lands, you know instinctively that she writes from personal knowledge rather than from library research. Not to mention that her dialogue and pacing are superb. Her dialogue flows naturally, replete with everyday expressions everyone knows. And this isn't a "lust at first sight" story. It's the tale of two people caught in situations not of their making whose love develops gradually. I highly recommend A Cowboy's Redemption.
