Absolute must read! This work inspires hope!

For those who laugh at Dilbert's view of corporate America but secretly despair in it's truths, this book is a ray of sunshine, showing what is possible when our intention is to combine living our values with deep commitment to others and our planet, to create meaningful work. It is truly awe inspiring to realize what is possible when connecting with others in the spirit of love, integrity, shared dreams, and an intention to do good. Gail's work is very timely and necessary.

A realistic, upbeat, unsentimental but positive view.

With a media machine that thrives on feeding us simplistic news with shock value, Ms. Holland's book provides a much needed alternate view. If she is correct, the real shock is that the many positive and healthy responses to social change she documents may in fact overpower the negative ones in the daily news. She culls information from all aspects of culture that generate social change, then ties her examples together with a holistic, life-supporting vision. This isn't "new age." It doesn't fit into any philosophical box. It is the work of a journalist who chooses to report from a new perspective. The book should be read by anybody who wonders, or cares, where we're headed.

This is a lodestar for both life and work: outstanding!

Gail Holland manages to inform us and direct us simultaneously. As a teacher, I found myself nodding in enthusiasm throughout the section on change in education, while still making mental note of the many other possibilities for my classroom brought to mind by Ms. Holland's work. Among the many salient issues in education, she discusses approaches to teaching compassion that are actually in use, thus addressing some of the cures for the violence that has begun to arise in classrooms across America. The solutions Ms. Holland refers to are real ones being used by people and organizations, not just more theory! Reading through the rest of the book, I was heartened by her documentation of the movement toward a more holistic society. This is a real post-it-note book. You will want to quote it! And the Resource Guide alone (at the back of the book) is worth the price of the entire book! Just buy it!
