This is the story of a young boy whose first four years were spent at Spencer, a woods depot where German POWs were kept. His next few years were at Jackman - Moose River, called the Switzerland of Maine. Then there were the lumber camp homes at three places along the St. John River and followed by the years at Clayton Lake, just a few miles from the Allagash Waterway. He taught himself the 6, 7 & 8th grades. living without benefit of television or radio and snowbound many many times.
