Are you familiar with the words like "disabled" or "special"? Can you see why that would promote a student or child from feeling like they belong? Then allow me to tell you my story about many of the things my students were able to accomplish because they felt valuable, loved, and respected.
They were able to do many things:
service the community: businesses around them came out and encouraged them and bought them lunchfollow the rules of society: used manners and smiled, and worked hard on the task that they were assignedshow kindness and respect for the people they encountered: they were respected by others in the communityit was a day of positive comments and student prideIf you want to share in their experiences, please get the book. They are not the stereotyped kids that everyone labels or calls special.
