The first Mountain Division was a major unit of the Army of the German Wehrmacht. The Mountain Association was used during the Second World War in the Polish campaign, Western campaign in Greece, the Balkans campaign, the war against the Soviet Union from 1943 to the partisan fight again in the Balkans. The division was designated by Adolf Hitler as "his Guards Division" and was involved in war crimes such as the massacre of Kefalonia (1943).The United Association was established on 1 June 1935, first as Mountain Brigade with Colonel Ludwig K?bler as commander and Major Max Josef Pemsel than 1 General Staff Officer (Ia), situated in the military district VII.
