美高统计学衔接手册 [Chinese]

《美高统计学衔接手册》(A Bridge to U.S.

A Bridge to U.S. High School Statistics is a bilingual Chinese-English transition guide written for Chinese students who are about to study statistics in a U.S. high school, at roughly the AP Statistics level.

Many Chinese students have already learned the mean, variance, and the normal distribution at home, yet freeze up in their first U.S. statistics class - tripped up by unfamiliar English terms, different notation (sample variance uses n-1, the sample mean is written x̄, the sample proportion p̂), and exam questions that demand you "explain the result in one sentence." This book is built to get you across that gap. The first half works as a bridge: it aligns Chinese and English terminology and makes the U.S.-China notation differences explicit. The second half teaches statistical inference from the ground up - confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, chi-square, regression inference, and ANOVA - with special care taken to dismantle the most common misconceptions about the p-value and confidence intervals (for example, that the p-value is not the probability that the null hypothesis is true, and that "95%" refers to the long-run success rate of the interval-building method).

Across thirteen chapters and six appendices, the book offers plentiful worked examples drawn from medicine and biology (close to biostatistics exam contexts), end-of-chapter multiple-choice and free-response exercises, a bilingual glossary, a formula quick-reference, a degrees-of-freedom quick-reference, a U.S.-China notation comparison, and English word-root footnotes. Every statistical conclusion is paired with the correct one-sentence phrasing in both languages - including why statistics only ever says a hypothesis is "supported" or "rejected," and never "proved."

Whether you are preparing to attend high school in the U.S., adjusting to a U.S. statistics classroom, or simply building a solid bilingual foundation before you go abroad, this book helps you carry the groundwork you already have in Chinese and translate it, smoothly, into the language of U.S. high school and
