Under his tutelage, Boys Run the Riot gets put to the test to think up their brand message, motif, and concept...in order to prepare for their brand's debut at Joe's exhibition! Meanwhile, Ryo and Jin must decide whether to hide from their families, or invite them along to the exhibition and reveal their true selves... The boys who once dreamed of changing the world with their clothes are now ready to take the stage, and they're not exiting without causing a riot!
FINAL VOLUME!
This was the perfect ending to this short four-volume series! I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that even in the face of adversity, these three kids and their friends really stepped up for one another, and would stop at nothing to help each other, no matter who - or what - they are. This whole series, the story is focused on design and fashion, but the heart and soul of this series is about understanding yourself and finding others who will encourage yet give you the room to explore different aspects of yourself without judgment.
I love how the art isn't typical shonen or shojo style with the overly large, odd pupil eyes and cartoonish physicality of the characters. Everything was well proportioned and realistic, which really drew me in and made the whole story feel even more genuine. You will definitely feel all the feelings with this one: anger, joy, sadness, giddiness, everything right along with these characters and for these characters.
I do wish the story had focused a little bit more on Jin throughout the series, along with some of the other side characters, so they would've felt a bit more fleshed out. But I do understand the focus being on Ryo and Tsubasa; a lot of the discussion of the series is about gender and how it is portrayed, and the feelings of it not matching your physical body. Also, the poignant short story titled "Light" at the end of this volume That what inspired Boys Run the Riot was the cherry on top. It had the same heart, adversities, intolerance, and acceptance that the whole series had, just scaled down for a one-shot.
Overall, a thoughtful and thought-provoking series, with a main cast that will grab your heart, never let go, and make you want to burn the world down to rebuild it. I will forever recommend this series to anyone who will let me rant about its awesomeness.
