The Legend of Korra – The Art of the Animated Series: Book One: Air dives into the powerful behind-the-scenes art and notes of the show. What they say is true: it takes a village. So many artists, writers, animators, and voice actors made The Legend of Korra a fantastic sequel to the original show, Avatar: The Last Airbender. And of course, we can’t forget the co-creators who made it happen, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, by coming up with the Avatarverse in the first place. After looking at all the sketches and paintings, I realize how much dedication and tenacity it takes to create a memorable show like this one—and this is only the first book—three more to go. And I can’t wait to read more about Korra’s story. There are many golden eggs throughout the book, like Asami was originally supposed to be a spy for The Equalists, but they changed her to become one of the good guys. I have the second edition, and the cover is amazing: Korra firebending at The Equalists. I recommend this book for anyone who loves Korra’s Team Avatar and would like to learn more about the hard work that went into each episode and character. I love how they brought back Dante Bosco to voice General Iroh II, Fire Lord Zuko’s grandson.
