Fanny McBride was a large, cheerful, indomitable Tyneside widow with a large, cheerful family. When she reached her fifties, she began to feel, for the first time in her life, a little lonely. All but one of her sons and daughters had married and left home, leaving her with spare time on her hands.

Being a woman of resource, Fanny took on a job at the local 'Ladies', which was to prove a surprisingly stimulating experience.

Wonderful Character!

Fanny McBride - both the character and the book - were wonderful! I love all of Catherine Cookson's works, but this character is one of her most engaging, yet. The book is an easy read and I didn't want to put the book down until I had finished it!

Fanny McBride is One of Catherine Cookson's Best

I loved Fanny McBride. She touched my heart. I cried when she cried. I was happy when she was happy. I could hardly put the book down until I finished. I am a Catherine Cookson collector and Fannie McBride is one of her best. If you like Fanny McBride, you will also love The Fifteen Streets.
