Stocism History? Yes- But Not Timeless

Well, I was bound to have another dud at some point. Normally, I just stop reading when I don't like a book. I'm one of those people. I can walk away from a movie, a tv show, a book, etc if I don't like it. I don't have to know the ending. Don't usually care. But there were some good bits here and there, nothing hugely profound, but at least something! So I keep going, hoping for a redemption. It didn't happen. And by the end of the book, the previous book I had finished (the history one was yesterday) clarified in my mind why: misogyny. Ugh. I know, I know. It's in some books, especially books from older times. But this book is NOT from older times! It's from 7 years ago, not 700. Yet I identified a distinct trend. Whenever it gave guidance, advice, snippets of wisdom, and active ways you can better yourself using Stoicism- he/him was used. Anytime the opposite was happening, to the percentage of 100% by the final chapters, she/her was used. He can calm his mind and let go of worries to be a better person by doing xyz. She is irrational, governed by emotions, and too engrossed in herself to see or care about her flaws. Etc. 🙄 My eyes just left my body, they rolled so far... 3/10 recommend It does tell the history of Stoicism, but it falls short in making it a history for the modern person.
