Unique

After looking at the numerous reviews for this book, I find it interesting that readers either love or hate this book. Several people have pointed out that no one can get fit in 8 weeks just by doing these exercises--well, duh! Almost all exercise books, diet books, etc. share the same fallacy. What I really liked about this book was the variety of unique exercises. After doing isolation exercises with dumbells for several months, I needed to change my routine. This book contains whole body routines using combination moves I have never seen anywhere else. I liked the fact that the exercises are performed slowly and mindfully, and the medicine ball is just plain fun! If you are tired of the same old biceps curls, kickbacks, etc., try this book, and make it one part of your total fitness program.

It's working for me

I have to agree with some of the other readers that it probably wasn't a good idea to indicate on the cover that you can get "Perfectly Fit" in 8 weeks. If you're already slim, you can probably experience visibly increased muscle tone by following the program outlined. That's not the case for me.I have followed the program for nine weeks now and I have lost 12 pounds so far. I have another 20-25 pounds I'd like to lose. "Perfectly Fit" has been part of my overall program, not the sole provider of success. I started with the "Perfectly Fit" beginner's program and I do it twice a week. In addition, I'm following the Weight Watchers Success 1-2-3 plan and exercising aerobically three or four times a week.Anyway, my experience with the book has been that it's been written in a conversational, easy-to-read style. It includes 80 or so strength training exercises and three programs geared at beginner, intermediate or advanced. The author encourages people to keep changing their fitness routine to avoid "plateauing." I'm not a fitness guru, but she sounds to me like she knows what she's talking about and by incorporating her suggestions into an overall weight loss program, I have been successfully working toward my fitness goals. It seems to me like there's something in this book for just about anyone. Maybe the people who didn't find the exercises challenging enough are already extremely fit.I will say again, however, that you should probably ignore the "8 week" part. I'm happy with my results so far, but it's unrealistic to expect a complete fitness makeover in that time frame. That aside, I think the book is worth the money.

Selene Yeager's Perfectly Fit

Finally, a book that is easy to follow and motivated me enough to start doing the exercises and programs as soon as I read it. I started what I thought was strength training about a year ago, with very minimal results. I learned what I was doing wrong, and I learned which exercises will work best for my desired result and problem areas. In five weeks, I have lost an inch in my waist and a half inch in my hips. My clothes fit so much better, so quickly, without dieting. The pictures help to show how to do the moves and the descriptions are easy to follow. The between You & Me sections offered some great tips to bring on even more success. I've never been able to stay with a program for this long. I usually get bored. The four sets of exercise plans to go through the weeks with you keep things interesting. The different cardio chapters offered a nice variety of things to help you move and burn calories. The scale chapter was written for me, since I was one of those people who weighed themselves everyday. I went from that to every other day to now only twice a week. As I'm seeing results it's getting easier to forget the scale and focus more on how I feel and how my clothes fit. I have never felt this strong or healthy before. I recommend this to anyone who is trying to get in shape and feel better about themself.

Sweat and Smile

Selene Yeager motivates and inspires readers to get into shape. Her style is friendly and her advice is on target. I found the step-by-step illustrations to be very helpful. Her "Between You & Me" sidebars are delightful. Her range of exercises are far reaching from gardening to elliptical machines. Definitely a must buy for any woman who wants to look -- and feel -- great!
