A great intro to science fiction for kids - and nostalgic adults

This 1973 original anthology edited by Roger Elwood remains a good introductory book for young burgeoning SF/fantasy fans, as I was when I received this book for Christmas over 30 years ago as an 11-year-old. Stories by Anne McCaffrey -- an original Pern story which I'm not sure has been republished in this exact format -- and lesser-known names like Arthur Tofte, Raymond F Jones and the late lamented Terry Carr, himself a great anthologizer. My favorite story, which has stuck with me all of these years, is "The Mysteious Gem" by one Claire Edwin Street, a complete unknown to me, about a couple of kids who accidentally pick up the title stone and find themselves caught up in an attempted alien invasion. If Street published anything else in the science fiction or fantasy genres, I'd love to find it. Evocative black and white line drawings throughout by Rod Ruth; intro by Ted Sturgeon. Out of print now I think but easy enough to find used. My copy has a library binding which has deteriorated somewhat over 30+ years, but the paper is good quality and still very white.

FIRST APPEARENCE OF "THE SMALLEST DRAGONBOY" BY ANNE McCAFFREY!

THIS is a 1973 CLASSIC! This is a collection that Roger Elwood supervised. Not ONLY is it the first appearance of the afore mentioned "THE SMALLEST DRAGONBOY", but it also contains an introduction by Theodore Sturgeon. The other authors represented in this book are :" Arthur Tofte, Claire Edwin Street, David H. Charney, Raymond F. Jones, Nick Boles and Terry & Carol Carr". Yes, this was aimed at teen-preteen readers. However this does not matter. Reading this is like visiting a time capsule of these writers. One more detail, the fascinating illustrations(look at that cover!) are by "Rod Ruth". A GEM OF THE 1970'S!
