Paddling the Guadalupe

A superb book and a must for any Texan in particular and any lover of nature in general. Extremely well written. It is the equal of John Graves's Goodbye to a River.

Loved this book

At first blush, this is just a great book about the Guadalupe River. But as you read Dr. McAlister's exacting prose, you quickly realize that this is a book about a man's life, his journeys and studies and how they have been so closely tied to this river. This book which documents a lifetime's metaphysical journey, reminded me so much of Persig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", I would suggest buying a copy of that as well.
