Still germane

Throughout the 1990s, IBM's version of unix, AIX, had some of the most advanced features of any commercial unix. For instance, its SMIT GUI let sysadmins easily handle many duties. The alternative could be a manual typing of what were often intricate command lines, with many arguments to the various commands. Needless to say, the book goes into explaining SMIT at some length. It was a vital part of AIX's attraction.AIX also had the ability to have journalled file systems, and to dynamically increase the size of a partition without having to reboot the system. For several years, Solaris and HPUX required a reboot.Of course, this book was written before IBM officially decided to throw its weight behind linux. Nowadays, IBM is in the process of merging AIX into linux. But the advice given in the book is still mostly germane.
