Peter Bennett, N.D. is a Naturopathic Physician with a practice in British Columbia, Canada. He is a board certified acupuncturist and a homeopathic practitioner. Stephen Barrie, N.D. is an international lecturer, and founder of the Great Smokies Diagnostic Laboratory. The wisdom in this book comes first hand - from working hand-in-hand with their own clients. The premise of this book is that we have the choice of living a healthier life, regardless of our past, present, or even future circumstances. This material presents a three-week plan that will change the way the reader looks, feels, and lives. The book is organized into three sections: the first section describes the problem, the second section outlines the solution, and the third section pulls everything together into an action plan. The first section looks at three questions: "Why am I tired?", "Why am I overweight?", and "Why am I stressed?" The second section covers simple principles about what to eat, how to move your body, and how to relax. The third section, which comprises approximately half of the book, presents the Three-Week Plan for reaching optimum health. Throughout this book there are numerous charts and graphics, all done in sharp, realistic colors. They act to help the reader focus, rather than detracting from the presentation... This is an excellent beginner's book for someone truly interested in making some important lifestyle changes.

Energize Your Life, a new book co-written by Dr.'s Stephen Barrie N.D. and Peter Bennett N.D., discusses straightforward solutions for health and wellness. This new book includes a plan for "healthy eating (with [the aid of] sample recipes), a program of functional movement, especially walking, and relaxation tools, which together can increase energy, help to lose weight and transform stress". Dr. Bennett says that Energize Your Life is written for people who are confused by the "massive amount of conflicting advice on health in the media". Energize Your Life is presented in three sections. The first part outlines common reasons for poor health or low energy. The second section discusses long term solutions for optimal health, and the third section lays out a three week diet and exercise program. I found the whole book very easy to read and understand. There are ample pictures and diagrams to explain the text of the book. Dr. Bennett gives the reader a specific three week plan to follow, and includes recipes, a daily and weekly schedule, and an easy to follow exercises, including breathing and relaxation exercises. This exercise plan is fairly gentle; it includes walking and basic stretches. This book lays out a lifelong plan to good health, and gives the reader the tools to attain optimal health and body performance. The book is intended for a person who is interested in becoming healthy and active, but is unsure how to begin or sustain this kind of lifestyle. As Dr. Bennett says, good health "takes time and has to be sustained over many years. Energize Your Life presents a program which looks at life [and health] as a marathon, not a sprint. You have to be able to settle into a pace you can sustain. It is a lifetime performance". This review will be appearing in the winter issue of Health Action Magazine.
