Recent attacks have people questioning if the Undead are reverting back to their zombie state of being.

Swept up in mass hysteria, Zooey is snatched from her home by the Z-Division of the National Guard and thrown into a gated town for the Undead. Her only escape is when she takes the forty-five minute bike ride back into the city of Boston to work as a fake zombie in an escape room, the only job she could find. But fate deals her a generous hand when her soldier friend, Miles, is reassigned to be the guard at her new apartment complex. Zooey tries to find solace in her only Undead friend, Ren, but he is distracted with his experiments. Meanwhile, Zooey's old roommate, Elizabeth, is interning under Christine Moore (Yes, the Christine Moore from the popular Dead Soil trilogy ), world famous Undead lawyer and activist. Together, they will try to win back the freedom the Undead of Boston deserve.

The trials for Undead rights go well until the bodies of two college boys are found in a sunken car in the Boston Harbor. Now, the fight against the Undead is stronger than ever as fear grows. Zooey remembers fragments of that night, but not enough to be sure she wasn't the one who murdered them. With some help, Zooey tries to figure out who the real murderer is. But what Zooey doesn't know is that Miles is hiding a massive secret from her, one that reveals who the true murderer is. Will Zooey be able to solve the case and clear her name?
