Herriot fans will enjoy...

This book and it's sequel is a treat for anyone who's enjoyed James Herriot. Whereas Mr. Herriot's practice concentrated on domestic animals, Mr. Taylor has worked with zoo and other wild animals. Like Herriot, Taylor began his practice before some of the more helpful advances of modern veterniary medicine (at one point he describes trying to treat zoo animals before the invention of anesthetic dart guns!). And like Herriot, Taylors stories are both wonderfully funny, at times and touchingly poignant at others. He's also had some amazing adventures and narrow scrapes here and there, more often with unscrupulous wild animal owners, than with the animals themselves. Highly recommended.

This is the best book I read. David Taylor sure did a simply perfect job. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

A Zoo Vets Life...

The title of this book explains most of it, a vet who handles wild zoo animals. It covers the problems a vet encounters when taking care of non domestics animals, and also mentions how various people feel about animals in general. David Taylor also discusses what it took to learn all the various workings of the animals. The stories are very good, such as the one where David gets a ride from a monkey on a motocycle! (it's been a while since I've read it, I know it wasn't a MONKEY but something close...) I liked this book a lot, it gives a very interesting insite about zoo's and how the animals are taken care of.
