Zodiac 37

On December 20, 1968, over 53 years ago, the Zodiac committed his first murders when he killed David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen on Lake Herman Road, in Benicia, California. I was a young girl at that time and lived about three miles down the road, on East 2nd Street. For me, as for many other people who grew up in the Bay Area in the sixties where the police followed school buses and we had a ten o'clock curfew, fear became a normal way of life. At that time, my parents tried to shield me from the knowledge of the Zodiac crimes and didn't discuss them at home. Instead, what I did know about them, I learned from my girlfriends who liked to get scared and talk about it at slumber parties. In Zodiac 37 you will learn about the early childhood of my suspect Nick Nevarez (pseudonym). You will also learn about each of his seven, confirmed murders as well as his thirty unconfirmed murders. This book was written using the police reports and my personal knowledge of the area and times that we were living in. I also used a bit of conjecture to join the pieces together to create a coherent story. After committing his homicides, the Zodiac sent letters and cryptograms to the San Francisco "Examiner," the San Francisco "Chronicle" and the Vallejo "Times Herald." On February 14, 1974, the Zodiac sent a letter to the San Francisco "Chronicle" claiming 37 victims. This book is about those 37, possible victims. Nick grew up in Vallejo and lived there during the times of the Zodiac killings. He was in the same class and went to the same high school as Betty Lou Jensen and lived one-half mile from her home on Ridgewood Court. He drove a white, Chevy Nova, which was the same type of car that witnesses reported seeing in the areas where several of the Zodiac crimes were committed. He also looked like the man in the Napa Composite Drawing, fit the physical descriptions given by witnesses and victims, wore the same type of clothing, wore his hair in the same style and has the same name that was possibly used in three of the Zodiac's coded messages. Today, this man is still alive and well and living in an area not far from where the crimes were committed. I have gone to law-enforcement agencies with my suspicions several times, but have not received much response. This is in spite of the fact that two profilers agreed that it was possible that he was the Zodiac Killer based on handwriting samples, etc. I can only hope that this book will cause the police to take a closer look at my suspect. Sincerely, Madame X
