Elias Harrison, a seventy-three-year-old stable owner, is devastated when his champion racehorse, Zephyr dies suddenly just three weeks before the prestigious Harrison Classic. The loss is compounded by the taunts of his rival Victor Salinger, who suggests that Zephyr's young son Orion could never match his father's greatness.
