This collection of short work by the greatest "western" novelist is nothing but superb. It contains some of his finest short work, many of which were first published more than a century ago in magazines--titles such as Bernardo's Revenge, Monty Price's Nightingale, and Lightning. Others date to the middle 1920's--A Missouri Schoolmarm, Lure of the River. And one, The Camp Robber, seeing its first paperback publication. One is an excerpt from the novel Wildfire. All in all these stories cover an area from Southern Mexico to the wilds of Utah, from jungle to desert. This is also the paperback version of a hardback entitled Bernardo's Revenge with the one story, The Camp Robber, added. This is perhaps the easiest way to obtain that story because the original in a Walter J Black edition is rather hard to come by. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one.
