Too Much in One Book

This is a review of content only as I can not reasonably judge the physical book itself, as I do not own one, but putting five Zane Grey novels into a book of only 454 pages tells me the print must be tiny or there has been some abridgement happening. As to the novels in this book: The Spirit of the Border and The Last Trail go together as they are the last two thirds of Zane Grey's Ohio Valley Trilogy, the third book being Betty Zane, and they describe actual events of Zane Grey's historical family, the Zanes, founder of Zanesville, Ohio. Tales of Fishes is a non fiction book about Zane's fishing adventures, and quite readable whether you are a fisherperson or not, quite a good book. The Last of the Plainsmen is also non fiction and is the tale of Buffalo Jones without whom Zane Grey would not have become the writer he was, as Jones introduced Zane Grey to the West and to people whom Zane Grey based many of his early characters on in books such as Heritage of the Desert and Riders of the Purple Sage. Valley of Wild Horses was not published in book form until 1947 several years after Zane Grey died, and it was lengthened by a ghost writer because Harpers didn't feel it was long enough to be Zane Grey. The original version, Open Range was a magazine novel and is far superior to the version most readers are acquainted with. I suggest you get it. And any of these others by themselves for reading comfort, and get them in hardback because you will want to read them over and over.
