My name is Rainey Leroy. I live in a boarding school. I was told I was dropped off here by my parents at age two. They never came back. The school is called The Reginald P. Dilcue Center for Curious Children, or as we here like to call it, the Dilcue. The Dilcue is really an orphanage for... well, I guess curious is the right word. Curious children. We get left here by our parents or relatives because we have strange abilities that cause problems. The old lady who runs the place, Mrs. Krempasky, calls me Zalena, because of what I can do. She's seen a lot of kids go through the Dilcue in her day, and she says I'm pretty powerful. That concerns me. Every kid at the Dilcue can do something special. For example, take the people in my bunkroom. Tanya can draw certain objects into existence. Aster can control plants. Jacquie has prehensile hair and opposable toes. And me? My power is more dangerous.
