Non-worsted wool can be found in many different sources, including old clothes and blankets. Worsted wool is usually found in older suits. It doesn't change in the fulling process. This fulling process can be used to prepare wool for appliqu?. Remove all seams and embellishments from the garment. Separate the wool into similar colors. Use hot water and cold rinse to wash in the washing machine. Use the highest setting of your dryer to dry. Keep the lint trap clean and check it often. Unbleached wool is likely to be found. How to prepare pattern templates Freezer paper makes it easy to transfer the templates onto the wool. The templates can be reversible because the freezer paper is attached to the wool's front side. These are the steps to follow: Place the templates on the flat side of the freezer paper. Then, cut the shapes out using a knife. Lay the shiny side down of the freeze paper on the side that you plan to use for the front side. Use a dry heat iron to press the wool in place. A small, portable iron is used. Trim the line around your template. These are our favorite scissors to work with wool. Put a small amount of glue at the back of your template. You can use the glue anywhere you want, except where you intend to stitch. It is easy to apply tiny pieces of glue using the Roxanne Glue Basteit needle applicator. Place the wool piece on top of the background. Allow the glue to dry. When you are ready to sew, remove the freezer paper. It is hard to believe that needle art created during the Civil War is still popular today. If you have ever stitched wool-appliqu?, you will know why. Wool appliqu? can be used in any design style, from primitive to modern, and is easy and quick. The wool is felted so it won't fray and you don't need to trim the edges of your pieces. It's also easy to use the many beautiful threads available today. You can find wool at your local quilt shops, online, or up cycle wool from clothes. Even better, you can dye and over-dye felted yarn yourself. Stitching is easy! You simply need to trace your appliqu? patterns onto freezer paper or lightweight fusibleweb, and then iron them onto your wool. Once they are cut out, you can place your shapes on the background and then stitch.
