Yuga: The Age Unwritten: Vol 1: The Weight of Nothing
Arjun Mehra dies on a Tuesday evening in Bangalore traffic.
He wakes in 405 CE as a fourteen-year-old boy named Yuga - minor nobility in the Kadamba Kingdom of Karnataka, a kingdom sixty years old and already pulling apart at the seams. Two royal branches in a cold war over succession. A Pallava threat building on the border. A treasury that runs on relationships instead of systems.
He has no magic. He has no army. He has the knowledge a software engineer accumulates across thirty-two years - how institutions fail, how systems scale, how to build things that outlast the person who built them. And a bargain with something ancient that has given him tools no one in this century has any framework to understand.
He is fourteen years old. He has to learn to walk in a smaller body first.
Volume 1 follows Yuga from his arrival through his first two years in Halasi - the small territory his family holds, and where everything begins. He proves his value through a trade dispute that no one else thought was solvable. He recovers his grandfather's lost lands through administration rather than force. He earns the ear of King Skandavarma not through combat or politics but through a military intelligence analysis that Commander Harsha had been trying to deliver for months without anyone listening.
By the volume's end, he has the territory, the mandate, and the relationships to begin building in earnest. The succession law is drafted. The blueprint for the civilian corps exists. Kavitha is doing accounts at eleven market stalls across two districts. The drainage technique has spread to fifteen farms by word of mouth, without him.
That last part matters. Things are spreading without him.
That is the point.
Yuga: The Age Unwritten is alternate history progression fantasy about building institutions rather than winning battles - for readers who want a protagonist whose power is patience, documentation, and the long game.
