The PERFECT book for skeptical grandparents

I adored this book. I bought three of them - one for me, and one each for the grandparents to have. It is written specifically for them, to help them understand homeschooling. I completely agree with the first reviewer's analysis of the book. It's a must-read for doubting grandparents, husbands and friends - but particularly the grandparents. :)Another MUST-READ for all homeschoolers (and doubters) is: "Home Schooling: The Right Choice" by Christopher J. Klicka. Awesome book by another Christian author. I was absolutely shocked at what is going on in the public schools today. Klicka doesn't hold back in his analysis. Fabulous book. Both of them.

You're Going to Do What?! or The Little Engine That CAN!

Just like that famous childhood story, Laurajean Downs has created a very helpful book that is encouraging, edifying, and a real confidence builder! Reading her book is like sitting down at the kitchen table with an old friend, over a cup of tea, for some sound and wise advice! Home educating is a big decision and one that needs the support of the whole family to be a success. This book is the perfect resource for answering all those questions that might arise, based on your decision, from grandparents and relatives that are from a generation foreign to 'schooling at home.' And the author has covered all the bases for building that new homeschooler up in their decision: the reasons why, socialization, the law, support, teaching style and curriculum, organization at home, and the challenges for the mom/teacher and the family. I truly appreciated the chapter on Homeschooling and the Grandparent Connection/How Can I Help?. What a blessing for a homeschool mom to have supportive parents, who help her reach her goals. These folks will surely reap the rewards of Proverbs 17:6, "children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." The whole family can only grow stronger and, of course, more educated by following the godly advice of Mrs. Downs. I highly recommend this book to anyone embarking on the homeschool journey!

very good for explaining homeschooling to relatives

This is a very good introduction to homeschooling. It does not cover curriculum, planning or schedules. Rather, it attemps to answer basic questions, such as "How can you socialize if you are in homeschool?" It is written with a bent towards convincing the relatives (especially grandparents)of the benefits of homeschooling, rather than answering the questions of the parent (the primary teacher).I plan on purchasing a few copies of this to pass out to skeptical grandparents.
