Your Old Men Will Dream Dreams
Your Old Men Will Dream Dreams is a poetic mosaic that explores end-of-life thinking patterns and near-death experiences. It grapples with grief, the meaning of existence, the nature of God, the power and dissolution of memory and self, and, ultimately, the mystery of death. It is casually observational, deeply questioning, and frequently cranky. It also yearns profoundly for the Divine. In the accumulation of details, there's a discovery -- that every life no matter how ordinary (or seemingly ordinary) is, in fact, extraordinary, a great canvas of work and wonder, emotion, family, and grace. What if humankind's most inspired thought is that we're all worthy and beloved, and that we're all one and indivisible . . .
The Author's Inspirations
The author's inspirations include: The interior life; the maturing of the spiritual and psychological self; near-death experiences; creating sparks by juxtaposing words; working from grids of favorite words; the deepening of meaning through repetition; dream states; ordering poems into a chronological representation of a life; fractured narratives with flipping perspectives; and the flow experience produced by minimal punctuation and eliminating line breaks.
