Ranging from riot-torn Cincinnati, Ohio, where the nation's racial and police issues have boiled over into the streets, to illuminating community concerns from coast to coast, Kathy Y. Wilson's big, bold perspectives on urban living, race, scandal, trends and humanity are razor-sharp and profound. Her observations on the state of cultural politics in her hometown and across America will unite and inspire readers everywhere.
Wilson's work speaks with wit, razor insight, personal observation/experience and delicious candor--albeit at times hard to swallow. The author is courageous in her recounts and most certainly in the content of those recounts. Anyone interested in reading a most intelligently conveyed genuinely human 'take' on society and its many 'mountains to climb' will deeply appreciate the offerings of one Kathy Y. Wilson! This one ought to be amidst the Classics of any Social Studies course with serious intent. Given the humor laced throughout, it is just the 'spoon full of sugar' to help the medicine go down and the discourse continue! Brava!

Wilson is brilliant, authentic, and entertaining. She approaches the issues in her book with an honesty and humor that is both moving and thought provoking. There is currently a one-woman-play based on this book which is just as, if not more, moving and entertaining as the book. Amazing!

I laughed, I winced, and I scratched my head. Ms Wilson's rant style is at times provocative and was a cue to me that I hadn't gotten the point. Sometimes rereading it I saw situations through the authors eyes, situations I thought were unchangeable that the author definitely doesn't agree. In the end I see new levels of dialog that could make a difference starting with addressing ignorance about other's experience. The essay format is nice so you can read a chunk then put it down to observe if you see anything different as you go through your life.
