“Your Name is Daughter”. You, the one reading this review. Amy is talking you. Female. Woman. Mother. Sister. Daughter.Amy explores and narrates in her words the stories of well known and not-so-well known women of the Bible. Amy tells the story of a lesser known woman named Huldah (2 Kings 22:14). She was one of five prophets during King Josiah’s reign. King Josiah sent for her. A woman chosen over four other men. What I loved about Huldah’s story (and others) was Amy told each daughter’s story through a modern-daughter-lens. Amy used poetic license by recreating each daughter’s story to line up with yours and with mine. I felt like I was reading about me. I was reading the stories of these incredible daughters and was reading and seeing my story woven into theirs—woven into God’s. Amy’s words grabbed me and pulled me into the lives of Huldah, Elizabeth, Mary, King Namaan’s wife’s servant girl, all of them. Amy’s conversational writing style in this book made it easy to read, held my attention, and kept me wanting more. Not only that…I found myself opening my Bible and reading about these women. Amy did have some passages about these women but I wanted to know what happened before and after these women’s stories were introduced. Amy shows us how important women are to the fabric of God’s great story from creation to the present. Amy tells us that God’s story is not complete with us…us daughters. We are crucial and necessary to God’s greater picture and to His story. Amy reminds us that women WERE important in the OT. She shows us this through the women she mentioned. She tells us about how Jesus lifted women up in His ministry. Women were so very important to Jesus’s ministry on earth.Each daughter’s story brought me closer to understanding one of the many parts of God’s character. Women bring a softer, more loving and empathetic side to life and God uses us daughters for His greater good.Amy’s writing is fun, conversational, educational, and refreshing. She is one daughter I’d love to sit with, drink coffee and talk about Jesus!
